Why is it so hard to live in the present?

Image
"Live in the present", is probably the most overused phrase on the internet. There are many self-help books and motivational speakers telling us about the importance of living in this moment and all the benefits you get by doing so. I too agree that living in the moment will help you to live a happy and fulfilling life. We all know that to live in the moment is to fully enjoy the present without worrying about tomorrow or mull over the past. But, do we actually know how to apply that principle in life? I was a constant worrier. I always used to feel bad about all the decisions I took in the past and worry about the future. When I first learnt about the concept of living in the moment, I thought I had discovered the greatest technique to live life. But, it wasn't really easy to approach life with that attitude. Also, it was not possible to apply that principle in everyday life. We will definitely create more problems if we live life in the present moment without real...

What happens when you start writing?

Image
Writing is the best thing that ever happened to me in my life. Writing has helped me to overcome my deepest fears. There was a time when I had thoughts that have been lingering in my mind for ages. (You know the kind of thoughts that give you anxiety and won't let you sleep). I could never share my thoughts with anyone. Because, I was afraid I will be judged. It's difficult to make people understand mental problems. People sympathize with those with cuts and bruises, and not fears and worries. Anytime I tried to tell anyone that I was going through anxiety, the best advice I would get was to eat and sleep well. Honestly, if it was that simple life would be so easy for many people. We all have our own unique worries and fears which we can't share with anyone. Not because we don't want to, but it's really hard to find someone who could listen without judging you. (If you have anyone like that, consider yourself lucky and ensure that you don't lose them at an...

Why is there so much hate against TikTok in India?

Image
I must admit, I hated TikTok. I hated it so much that I posted hate-status on Facebook as well. To be honest, I really didn't have any particular reason to hate it. I hated it just because everyone hated it. (You know that feeling when the majority of people have an opinion about something you automatically tend to exhibit the same opinion). One day I was forced to do a TikTok video by my friends. It took me more than an hour to do one sub-par video. It really hurt my self-confidence, because I always thought making TikTok videos were easy, and I couldn't even do one proper video.  For the next few days I tried making more videos only to realize that it requires hard work, skill and imagination to make TikToks as well, much the same as every other business. When I was scrolling through my Facebook profile the post above which I shared a few days ago caught my eye. I wanted to understand why people are biased toward TikTok, and what made me hate it too. I started ...

What is wrong with meditation?

Image
Just Google the word meditation and you will see thousands of results telling you how to meditate, when to meditate and how long to meditate. You will see how meditation can be used to cope with anxiety, sleeping disorder, stress, loneliness, depression, heart diseases, and to increase relaxation, awareness, self-identity, peace and all the rest of it. Meditation is also claimed to be a path towards enlightenment and self-realization. Different religions practice different kinds of meditations. There is Hindu meditation, Jain meditation, Buddhist meditation, Taoist meditation, Jewish meditation, etc. The so-called enlightened people in turn developed their own ways of meditation too. The word meditation is being used interchangeably with the words mindfulness, awareness, consciousness, alertness, concentration, attention, etc. Hence, it's very difficult for one to define meditation. If you have noticed meditation is the only belief that has been accepted by different religi...

When did life become so complicated?

Image
Why do they say life is complicated? Why do they teach us how to live? Why are there hundreds of professionals to take care of our physical and mental wellness?  I live a simple life. I eat when I'm hungry, I drink when I'm thirsty, I sleep when I'm sleepy, I rest when I'm tired, I rush when I'm late, I brush when I wake up, I bath when I smell, I take a leak when my bladder is full, and I walk sometimes, I run sometimes, I help my mom sometimes, I meet my friends sometimes, I spend time with my family sometimes.  I work during my work hours. When they need me, I help others. I buy what I need and save what is left. I blush when I see her, and I flush when I'm near her. I tell her if I love her. I hug her if I miss her. I kiss her if she permits, and we marry if she accepts. We make babies when we are ready, and stop when we have plenty. I cry, I laugh, I hope, I cope, I fear, I cheer, I expect, I respect, I bend, I mend, I live, and let live.  ...

Who said health is more important than wealth?

Image
Okay, I hear you shouting out loud, "Of course, health is very important in everyone's life." And, I have seen people saying that they would trade all their wealth for health at any given time. All the self-proclaimed enlightened people, motivational speakers and Godmen would unanimously preach that health should always be prioritized over wealth; Ironically, they make wealth by advocating people not to pursue wealth.  I'd not foolishly say, I would choose wealth over health; Just to stand out. I too recognize the significance of health. But, I wonder why should one pick either wealth or health? Do we not deserve to be both wealthy and healthy or, are we not capable of balancing them both in life? Where did this idea of choosing health over wealth come from? We always want something that we don't have, that's human nature. Likewise, wealthy people give immense importance to health, and that's understandable. But, what surprises me is the unwealthy ...

What if I tell you there is no purpose of life?

Image
What is the purpose of life? - The question every man asks themself at some point in their life. Some people say they have found their life's purpose and some people fail to find it in their lifetime. Why is it so hard to find one's purpose in life? How should you find your purpose? Can someone guide you to find it? Does your life have no value without a purpose? Can you not live a fulfilling life without a purpose? Those are the questions that haunted me for the major part of my life. I spent sleepless nights asking myself those questions. Sometimes, I used to worry that I may not figure out my purpose in this life; That thought was so scary. After trying my hand at several different things and after reading and listening to all the popular so-called enlightened people who claim they figured out life, I came to the conclusion there is no point in searching for the purpose of life, because life itself is pointless. I'm not saying this out of hopelessness, but by be...

What does it really mean when one says, "I Love you"?

Image
Love - One word, different emotions. For some the word love brings smiles, for some tears, for some suffering, for some cheating, for some sex, for some romance, for some advantage and so on. Each one of us has definitely experienced the so-called love in one form or another, but do we actually know what love is? All the time I searched for the love of my life. I wanted to be loved badly. But, I was rejected by 25 girls till date, and accepted by none. I remember getting hurt and sobbing sometimes for days and months whenever I got rejected. But, in retrospection, I realize that I actually never loved any one of them, but wanted someone just to give me company and fill the space in my life; To complete me. I proposed to each one of those girls just because I was feeling lonely, and because all my friends had girlfriends and seeing their love made feel like I was missing something in life. Now, I understand things that I don't want to accept even though they are clearly ver...

Is there a deeper meaning behind farts?

Image
Since I have a lot of time to spare, I have been thinking extensively about everything. Life, death, love, space, universe, God, health, work, career, passion, future, family, marriage, meditation, consciousness, country, politics etc. But the topic that intrigued me the most was farts. Yes, you read it right - farts. The more I think about it, the more I am fascinated I become. We still feel very uncomfortable talking about farting, but science says that every adult farts consciously or unconsciously 5-15 times a day. If every person farts every day of their life, why is there still an awkwardness in talking about it? Maybe because, farts smell. Have you noticed that the person who farts doesn't smell it and if they are able to smell it, it smells really good to them? This thought just blew my mind. How could the same fart smell different to the farter and the passive-farter? If you don't believe it, soon after you eat, jump in your bed and cover yourself with a blanket...
